What is an aneurysm?
An aneurysm is a bulge that occurs in a weakened vessel wall. It may result from a variety of factors like uncontrolled high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, old age, trauma, infection or from a condition that causes the vessel wall to be weak from birth. Once the aneurysm reaches a particular size it runs the catastrophic risk of rupture and death.
These aneurysms can occur in the aorta either in the chest or abdomen.
